Pennsylvania Farm Bureau President Chris Hoffman commented on agriculture’s inclusion in the 2026-27 Pennsylvania state budget proposal following Gov. Josh Shapiro’s budget address on Tuesday.
“Pennsylvania Farm Bureau applauds Governor Shapiro for recognizing agriculture in his 2026-27 budget address. We look forward to working with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, the Department of Environmental Protection, and the Department of Community and Economic Development, in addition to other key agencies, to ensure their general funds and programs reflect the growing needs of our industry and provide a balanced approach that supports our farm families.
PFB will continue to be a strong advocate for funding for the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences so that it remains the backbone of the research and Extension work that keeps our farms innovative. Furthermore, we strongly support the investment in Penn Vet, which serves as the vital pipeline for educating the next generation of large animal veterinarians. As our rural communities face a growing shortage of livestock veterinarians, this funding is essential to ensuring our farmers have a reliable workforce to maintain healthy herds and flocks.
We look forward to continuing our relationship with the Shapiro Administration, House and Senate leadership, and the Appropriations Committees to work toward bipartisan and historic investments in agriculture this budget season.”
