Pennsylvania Farm Bureau President Chris Hoffman commented today on President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariffs pause.
“Pennsylvania Farm Bureau (PFB) thanks President Trump for providing short-term relief for our farmers by implementing a 90-day pause on the recent reciprocal tariffs. Farm Bureau was and will continue to engage with the White House, U.S. Trade Representative, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture on finding a solution that meets the priorities of the Trump Administration, strengthens our trade agreements, and provides certainty for America’s farmers and ranchers. Reciprocal tariffs would have inevitably gotten our farmers stuck in the crosshairs of trade disputes, which would not have been good at a time when we still are working towards getting a new farm bill, experiencing high input costs, and struggling with reduced profit margins.
Though a temporary measure, this strategic decision was essential to facilitate ongoing trade negotiations and ensure farmers’ economic confidence, enabling them to continue producing affordable food, fiber, and fuel for global markets. We look forward to once again working with the Administration on determining a long-term solution to strengthen our trade agreements while prioritizing the impact decisions will have on America’s farmers and ranchers.”
