Alexandra Butler
will attend Penn State University to study Anthropological Science. With this knowledge, she will have the ability to collect soil samples in order to research which minerals and nutrients are present and create an optimal soil mixture to benefit crop growth in that area.

As a student at Western Wayne High School, Alexandra has participated in the National Honor Society, FBLA, Envirothon, and the National Art Honor Society. A four year member of the Varsity Soccer and Track & Field teams, she served as Varsity Club president. Most recently, she has competed on the school’s first ever Girls’ Wrestling team.

Alexandra works at Lori’s Corner Kitchen and helps her grandfather with repair projects in his shop. She makes time for community service projects such as collecting canned goods for the community pantry and the Ronald McDonald House. She also played a large role in organizing a benefit for the family of a coach who had been experiencing health issues.

Lucas Macdonough will attend Penn State University to study Materials Science and Engineering. His goal is to one day work for John Deere, designing new parts from longer lasting materials.

Lucas is a member of the Wallenpaupack Technology Club. He helped to organize a “Family Innovation Night” at which the club created a rocket project for families to learn engineering techniques together. He is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Boys’ Tennis team.

Agriculture is a way of life for Lucas. He raises both egg-laying chickens and meat birds on his family’s farm. Spring finds him tapping trees for maple syrup and preparing a large vegetable garden for planting. Careful tending of the plants yields a bountiful harvest to be canned and frozen for winter meals. He also tends a berry patch which provides jellies and juices for his family.

Lucas works with his father’s construction company, details school buses and mows lawns in the summer. He volunteers as an usher at the Lake Ariel Methodist Church and has helped to make repairs to the church building and the parsonage.

Sara McNichols will be attending Penn State University to study Animal Science with the goal of becoming a large animal veterinarian.

Sara has spent a large portion of her youth in Wayne County helping her aunt and uncle on their dairy farm. She is a member of the Creamton Area Ag Club and Wayne County 4H, serving on Teen Council and the Livestock Judging Team. In 2020, she was recognized as the Outstanding Intermediate 4H member at the Wayne County Fair.

At Scranton High School, Sara has taken part in softball, cross-country, Student Council, National Honor Society and the Scranton Show Choir.

Sara is very involved with her church, working as a counselor for Vacation Bible School and teaching Sunday School to young children. She has been selected to receive the Bishop’s Youth Award by the Diocese of Scranton.

When she’s not feeding calves or milking cows, Sara works at Creamworks Creamery.

Emma Modrovsky plans to attend Millersville University to major in Biology Education. As a biology teacher, she will be able to use her experiences in agriculture to enhance her students’ understanding of the natural world.

Through her years in the Tri-Gal 4H Club, Emma has shown hogs and steers at the Wayne County Fair. She has also submitted vegetable gardening and photography projects. She received the County 4H Outstanding Member Award in all three age divisions and has served as club secretary and
president.

Emma participates in field hockey, basketball, National Honor Society and Honesdale FFA where she currently holds the office of president. She serves on the board of Communities that Care for the Wayne Highlands School District. This organization provides after-school tutoring, child care and life skills lessons to students in grades 3 – 5.

Emma also finds time to work as a cashier at Clark’s Sunrise Market.

Rowan Murray is planning to attend King’s College to major in Elementary Special Education. She hopes to incorporate agriculture into her curriculum through a classroom garden and field trips to different types of farms in the community.

Rowan’s eight years in the Waymart Horizons 4H Club allowed her the opportunity on serve on Teen council for four years, serving as council secretary and president. She has also been a member of the Wayne County Highsteppers for eight years. Along with showing cattle she leases from Chyleland Dairy, she has participated in community service projects such as roadside cleanup, pantry food collections and providing blankets to Billy’s New Hope Barn.

At Honesdale High School, Rowan participates in Student Council, the Honesdale Interact Club, field hockey, basketball and the track & field team. Her love for agriculture led her to Honesdale FFA where she recently earned a Keystone Degree.

Rowan works at Chyleland Dairy and is presently learning to make cheese at Calkins Creamery.

Maria Spinelli will attend the University of Scranton majoring in Biology. There she will focus on her dream of becoming a large animal veterinarian.

Maria has been a member of the Pleasant Mount Go-Getters 4H Club from the age of eight. She has exhibited market swine, dairy cattle, market lambs and photography projects at the Wayne County Fair. She also helps with the club’s community service projects such as roadside cleanup, collecting food for the pantry and volunteering at a local rabies clinic.

Maria’s numerous extra-curricular activities have taught her the importance of time management. Student Council, Varsity soccer, FBLA, National Honor Society, concert band and CHOPS Club are only a few of her interests.

She is also an active member of her church, St. Katherine Drexel, where she has been an altar server, CCD teacher and a volunteer for the Altar & Rosary Society’s Pierogi project.

Helping on her grandparents farm, Maria developed a love for animals. Caring for pigs and cattle as well as helping out at her family’s veterinary practice has given her a solid background to not only work with small animals, but to become a large animal veterinarian.
