Farmers can now sign up for the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Conservation Reserve Program. The competitive program offers annual rental payments for land that is set aside for conservation purposes.
Signup for the program runs through Feb. 12. Farmers should sign up through their FSA county office.
CRP encourages farmers to establish long-term, resource-conserving plant species, such as approved grasses or trees, to control soil erosion, improve water quality and enhance wildlife habitat on cropland. Signup for a similar program targeting land used for grazing, CRP Grasslands, begins in March.
