What if I already have a classroom I want to read to?
That is great! We hope that most of our Volunteer Readers already have a classroom (possibly your child or grandchild’s classroom) they would like to read to as part of our PA Ag Literacy Week. Share the PA Ag Literacy Week program with the teacher of that classroom and ask them if you could read to their classroom the week of March 18-22, 2019.
If they agree, you simply need to get the following information from them, so you have the information you need when you Register to be a Reader:
- teacher first name
- teacher last name
- teacher email
- # students
- elementary school name
- school district
- county of school
What if I don’t have any connection to a school or classroom?
That’s ok. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org and let us know where you live and that you need help finding a local classroom. We work with many schools across Pennsylvania through our other ag literacy programs, so we can give you the contact information for some local schools that you can reach out to and request to read to their classroom during Ag Literacy Week, March 18-22, 2019!.
Can I read to more than one classroom?
Yes, definitely! With over 500 school districts in Pennsylvania, there are thousands of kindergarten-2nd grade classrooms that we have the potential to reach and educate about agriculture’s importance. We are going to need lots of Volunteer Readers, and if you are willing to purchase additional books and give of your time to multiple classrooms, we welcome you to do so. Just indicate your interest in reading to multiple classrooms when you Register to be a Reader.
What if I’ve never worked with students before?
It’s ok. We aren’t looking for trained educators…we are looking for individuals involved with agriculture who are willing to give a little bit of their time to connect young children in PA to agriculture’s importance. If you are passionate about agriculture and can read…we want YOU to participate and we will do all we can to give you the tools and confidence to share your agricultural experiences with the students.
